Al Roker and Sam Champion proved that New York is not so big after all!
On Thursday, beloved Today show forecaster, 69, revealed that he unexpectedly ran into Good morning America Weather anchor and WABC-TV anchor, 62, as he goes for a walk in Central Park.

“One of the best things about walking @centralparknyc is you never know who you’re going to run into. Great to see @samchampion walking this afternoon,” Roker wrote alongside an Instagram pic of the two.
In the next video, he spoke further about their friendship, expressing that “it’s a nice Thursday to be in Central Park.”
“I just ran into Sam Champion, of all people,” he said. “He and I started in local news here in New York around the same time. It’s great to see him.”
Keeping healthy has been an even bigger priority for Roker since he was hospitalized in November due to blood clots. He revealed the news in a post on Instagram after he had to miss his morning commitments on the show.
“Many of you have been wondering where I’ve been. Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg that sent some clots into my lungs,” the post read.
“After a few medical jabs at my mole, I am so happy to be receiving excellent medical care and on the road to recovery. Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon. Have a great weekend everyone,” the post continued.

Due to a medical scare, he was hospitalized and did not return to the hospital Today until January 6.
“Al is the lifeblood of this show, he’s the heartbeat,” Savannah Guthrie shared in an interview with Party tonight after his return to the studio was announced. “I mean, it just doesn’t work without Al. We love him so much, we miss him so much,” she said. “He went through this period that was difficult and he did it in his signature way where he’s always smiling, always upbeat, and he can’t wait to get back.”

As he reflected on the experience in an interview with PEOPLE, Roker said he was grateful to have the support of his wife, Deborah Roberts.

“Basically, I have no idea what happened,” he said. “That’s kind of Deborah’s story, because I was laying in bed. And it was like, ‘Okay, yeah, get some more blood. Yeah, give me a scan, whatever you’ve got.’ But Deborah was that rock and connected with the doctors.”
