Jaani was born on May 25, 1989 in Gidderbaha, Muktsar, Punjab (age 33; as of 2022) as Rajiv Kumar. His zodiac sign is Gemini. He studied at SSD Memorial School in Gidderbaha and went to Rayat Bahra University in Mohali, Punjab for his graduation. Thereafter, he obtained a Diploma in Hotel Management from Chandigarh. In 2012, when he was in his final semester, he wrote the lyrics to the song “Soch.” Jaani was planning to move to Australia to further his studies, and at the same time, his first song was released and became a hit. He then started getting calls from various popular Punjabi artists asking him to collaborate. After Sokh, Jani gave up the idea of going abroad and continued to develop his career in the Punjabi music industry.

Profession
Jaani started his career as a lyricist in 2012 with the religious song “Sant Sipahi”. However, he gained recognition after he wrote the lyrics for the song “Soch” sung by Hardy Sandhu. Since Soch, he has collaborated with B Praak, Arvindr Khaira and Hardy Sandhu on super hits like “Joker”, “Backbone”, “HornBlow”, “Naah”, “Yaar Ni Mileya” and “Kya Baat Ay”. In 2015, he penned lyrics for songs like “Taara”, “Ik Saal” and “Naa Ji Naa”, which went on to become blockbusters. Janni has written lyrics for many popular Punjabi singers including Sukh e, Jassie Gill, Ammy Virk, Diljit Dosanjh, Hardy Sandhu, Prabh Gill, Amrinder Gill, Kamal Khan, Gippy Grewal, Sunanda Sharma and Guri. He owns a music label “Desi Melodies”.
In 2016, he made his Bollywood debut as a lyricist with the song “Dard” from the movie “Sarbjit”, sung by Sonu Nigam.
In 2019, he made his debut with the Punjabi song “Jaani Ve Jaani”.
