Jack Black opens up about his hard rock rendition of Britney Spears’ 1998 song “…Baby One More Time.”
Speaking on Kung Fu Panda 4 premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday, Black, 54 — who plays Poe in the upcoming film — revealed the origins of the cover, which he created with his friend and Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass, 63.
“Yeah. So people don’t know… I don’t even know if I can say. I’ll just give you a quick update, but the director, Mike, said, ‘Hey. We’d love to have a Tenacious D song…'” Black said. to the reporters. “That’s Mike right there… ‘at the end of the check-out. Do you want to sing a song?’ ”

“I thought, ‘Can we do Britney Spears?’ And he said ‘Yes,'” Black added. “And he said he wanted ‘Baby One More Time’ because it’s kind of in the spirit of kung fu.”
Black went on to say that he and Gass “did a version of Tenacious D, and that’s going to be at the end of the check-out.”
“Then we’re like, ‘Hey. Let’s shoot a music video on the red carpet, black and white carpet, so that’s what we’re doing,'” he added.

In the video for the song, which was shared on TikTok earlier this month, Black and Gass dance in a living room while moving to the sounds of an electric guitar and School of rock the star’s vocals.
Black then raises a fist with the word “BABY” written across the fingers. “Tenacious B! 🐼,” read his captions on TikTok and Instagram, while on X (formerly known as Twitter), wrote the band“KEEP BELIEVING 🐼💥🐯.”
Fans have speculated that the song is related to Kung Fu Panda 4 thanks to the panda emoticons attached to the post.
Kung Fu Panda 4 it’s in theaters March 8.
