Jacob Elordi Reveals He Turned Down Reading for Superman Role: ‘That’s Too Dark for Me’

Jacob Elordi won’t be wearing the red cape anytime soon.

The 26-year-old revealed in a new interview that he was asked to read for the role of Superman, which he immediately turned down.

“Well, they asked me to read for Superman,” Elordi said GQ. “It was immediately, ‘No thanks.’ That is too much. It’s too dark for me.”

When asked if he would ever play a superhero, the actor — who stars on the cover of GQ’s 28th annual Man of the Year issue — replied, “Not particularly, no. I was always told to answer in circles or my agent would get mad at me. ‘Anything can happen!’ And obviously, anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see that I have any interest in it.”

Elordi admitted that he is “restless” watching superhero movies and that he “would like to do what I would watch.”

The Priscilla The star’s comments come after it was announced in June that David Corenswet would play Superman, aka Clark Kent, in the upcoming film Superman: Legacy.

Corenswet, 29, follows actors Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh, and most recently Henry Cavill, who left the role in December at the decision of DC studio co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Elordi, who is currently playing Elvis Presley in a new movie Priscillahe shared that he was called “pretentious” because of his attention to the types of roles he plays, due to his confusion.

“How is caring about your score pretentious?” the actor said GQ. “But not caring, and consciously feeding people – knowing that you are making money on people’s time, which is literally the most valuable thing they have – how that cool thing?”

Elsewhere in the interview, Elodri spoke about how he feels taking on his final role as Elvis alongside Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla Presley, a year after his Oscar-nominated portrayal of music icon Austin Butler.

“That certainly crossed my mind before I read the script. I don’t want to repeat the same story, especially because he did such a good job of portraying this man,” Elordi said GQ.

“That’s a completely different matter. And it’s terribly exciting to run into the fire a bit. I can’t think of anything more exciting.”
