Jagroop Singh, alias Roopa (1992-2022), was an Indian historian and close aide of imprisoned Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi . Jagrup is suspected to be one of the eight sharpshooters involved in the murder of Sidhu Muthewala. He was killed on July 20, 2022, in a clash with Amritsar police in Bachnakaran village in Amritsar.

Jagroop Singh was born in 1992 (30 years old; as of 2022) in Jaura village in Patti area of Tarn Taran district in the state of Punjab. While in school, Rupa was influenced by bad friends and started taking drugs. Soon he left his studies and worked briefly at a motorcycle agency. Highly addicted to drugs, Jagrup began selling household items to buy drugs. When his family learned about his drug addiction, they helped him overcome his addiction. However, Jagrup didn’t stop and started forcing his mother to pay for his drugs. He often snatched money from his mother and when she denied it, he often beat her and pulled her hair. Soon, he began committing crimes such as robbery and fraud. His family became unhappy with his growing criminal activities and kicked him out of their home in 2017.

Jagroop Singh Roops’ father Balwinder Singh was an agriculturist. Earlier, he worked as a driver, but at the request of his younger son, Balwinder gave up his career and started farming on two acres of land in Jaura village. His mother, Palwinder Kaur, was a housewife. His younger brother Ranchot Singh is an Indian Army personnel.

As a teenager, Roopa was involved in criminal activities such as robbery and fraud. When his parents kicked him out of their home, he left the village and vowed never to return. In a short period of time, he was involved in serious crimes such as ransom demands, quarrels, beatings, and attempted murder. According to police, Roopa is a B-category gangster and around 17 cases have been registered against him in cities such as Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ferozepur. Although he was found guilty in some cases, the courts also granted him leniency in some cases.
Sidhu Musewala murder case
On the evening of May 29, 2022, Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead by some unidentified assailants in Jawaharke village in Mansa. Sidhu was traveling in his Thar jeep with his cousin and a friend when the incident took place. His vehicle was reportedly intercepted by a white Bolero and a dark gray Scorpio, and soon after, gunmen inside the vehicle began shooting at Sidhu; he was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Hours after Musewala’s murder, Indian gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar and Sachin Bishnoi took to their respective Facebook accounts Account admitted responsibility for Sidhu’s murder. In June 2022, the police announced the names of eight suspected sharpshooters involved in Sidhu’s murder. Apparently, he was one of eight shooters. Other names include Manpreet Singh Mannu from Punjab, Harkamal alias Ranu, Priyavrat Fauji and Manjeet alias Bholu from Haryana, Saurav Mahakal and Santosh Jadhav from Pune and Subhash Banuda from Rajasthan.

- In a media interview, Jagrup’s mother said she last saw her son about four years ago. She also said that he had run away after committing crimes in the past, and later the police harassed them (his family). She also said that if her son was involved in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Musewala, the Punjab police should shoot him wherever they find him.
- In April 2022, Majisa police received a tip-off that Jagroop and his associate Gursharanjit were supplying drugs using their black Scorpio and were in possession of several illegal weapons. Sources told the police that the sharpshooter, armed with illegal weapons, could have been found at Jagrup’s house if the police had conducted an immediate raid. Following the tip-off, police immediately raided his home. Although Jagroop and his accomplice Gursharanjit managed to escape from the house, the police seized weapons suspected of drug proceeds (a pistol loaded with 8 rounds of ammunition and a revolver loaded with 23 rounds of live ammunition), 4.92 lakh Rupees in cash and an SUV (Scorpio). his residence. Later, a case was registered against Jagroop and Gursharanjit under Section 21-27A-61-85 of the NDPS Act and Section 25/27/54/59 of the Arms Act.
- After Jagroop’s name came up in Sidhu Moosewala’s case, a police team led by Sarhali police chief sub-inspector Charan Singh came to his village and raided his home, but the gate of his house was locked at the time . Later, when Jagruup’s family was questioned about their absence, Jagruup’s mother told police that they had not gone into hiding but had gone to a relative’s house for the funeral.
