IN Road House, directed by Doug Liman, Gyllenhaal plays ex-UFC fighter Dalton who takes a job as a bouncer at a bar in the Florida Keys after his professional days are over. After Dalton takes over the business and begins intimidating some of the bar’s unruly customers, he and its owner are threatened by a group of people who want to take control of the property.
“Dalton is barely getting rid of the reputation that still follows him when he is spotted by Florida homeowner Frankie (Jessica Williams). She hires him to be her new bouncer in hopes of stopping a violent gang working for crime boss Brandt (Billy Magnussen ), from destroying her beloved bar,” reads the film’s official synopsis.

“As brutal brawls and bloodshed escalate, the tropical wrenches prove more dangerous than anything Dalton has ever faced in the Octagon,” the synopsis adds. The cast also includes Joaquim de Almeida, Arturo Castro, Beau Knapp and Darren Barnet.
The film has been described as a “high-octane, adrenaline-filled reimagining” of Patrick Swayze’s 1989 film of the same name. Original Road House also starring Kelly Lynch and Sam Elliott.
And be part of it Road House the remake is especially special for Gyllenhaal, given that the original film starred one of his heroes.
On Sunday, the actor shared a photo of himself and the late Swayze from 2003 on his Instagram, reflecting on their time together and the lessons he learned.

“I’ve been thinking about my time with Patrick on Donnie Darko and rewatching this great man in the original Road House plus so many other movies,” Gyllenhaal wrote. “I never stopped being a fan. He was such a talent and I still have so much respect and admiration for what he put out into the world.”
“I’ll never forget his kindness to me when I was starting out — he didn’t have to take the time, but he always did,” he continued. “We made a different RH this time, but hopefully it would be one he would enjoy watching!”
Road House is on Prime Video on March 21.
