Eugene Levy’s Schitt’s Creek Costars Praise His ‘Immense Talent’ and ‘Unwavering Dedication’ at Walk of Fame Ceremony

Eugene Levy Schitt’s Creek his family showed him an outpouring of love when he received the coveted star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

His former actress and real-life daughter Sarah Levy and Catherine O’Hara joined him at the awards on Friday and paid tribute to his on-screen legacy with heartfelt speeches. After an extensive presentation of Eugene’s legendary career in Hollywood, Sarah, 37, took to the stage to pay tribute to her father’s achievements in film and television.

“Thanks to my dad, I was lucky enough to grow up in the world of film and television,” she said, before joking, “That’s what made me want to be an actress – it shattered my parents’ hopes and dreams of me having a steady job with permanent salary.”

“One of the questions I get asked a lot is what’s the best advice your dad ever gave you? He’s given a lot of great advice over the years, but there’s one phrase that sticks out in my mind that makes more and more sense as I get older: Put up the curtains,” she continued, sharing how the phrase resembles “focus on what you’re trying to achieve” and let go of “anything that might not be serving you.”

“My 14-year-old self would be rolling her eyes, my 37-year-old self standing here in awe of my father and his accomplishments over his 50+ year career,” she said. “I am constantly amazed by his endurance, his attention to detail, his passion and his unwavering dedication to his craft. He takes pride in making the final product as good as possible and watching him work reminds me that even if perfection is not possible, it does not that you should aspire to it.”

Eugene Levy was a strict dad to son and ‘Schitt’s Creek’ costar Daniel: ‘I would punish him a lot’

Sarah shared how she was able to see the brilliance of Eugene’s best acting qualities, not only as his daughter, but also as colleagues while working together on Schitt’s Creek.

“Dad, we are all incredibly proud of you and so thrilled to be here today to watch you get your star,” said the actress, who played Twyla Sands on the hit sitcom. “You have proven that you can achieve anything you set your mind to if you put blinders on your head and I can only hope to show that [my son] James is the same thing when he grows up. We love you so much and can’t wait for people to walk you.”

Catherine, 70, was next to pay tribute to her longtime costar.

Describing him as “a gentleman in every sense of the word” and someone who is “slow to anger” and “slow to judge,” the actress credited Eugene with helping launch her career and said she owed him “big time.”

“I’m so glad we’re happy, happy to recognize him with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, although I doubt Eugene would be just as happy to step out of the limelight,” she concluded. “Eugene, I’m sorry to say that your immense talent and humble love will only make us want to know you more and more.”

“I love you, I’m so proud of you,” added Catherine, who also starred opposite Eugene in SCTV and films by Christopher Guest, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, Waiting for Guffman and For your consideration.

Schitt’s Creek premiered in 2015 on Canada’s CBC network and ended its six-season run in April 2020. Eugene, 77, created the series with his son Dan Levy and both starred in the sitcom alongside Catherine and Annie Murphy.

The group portrayed the Rose family, a formerly wealthy and run-down family who lose all their money and are forced to live in a small town motel, the last possession they own. Eugene played the patriarch Johnny Rose, Catherine his wife Moira Rose, while Dan and Annie played their children David and Alexis Rose.

Along the way, they meet unusual citizens played by Sarah, Emily Hampshire, Chris Elliot, Jennifer Robertson, Noah Reid, Dustin Milligan and others.

The beloved sitcom received 19 Emmy Award nominations and nine wins. In 2020, Eugene won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series alongside Catherine and Dan, who took home the win for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

In August of the same year, Second city television alum was honored with the Newport Beach Film Festival’s first Lifetime Achievement Award.
