Profession

James Neesham started his career in 2011 playing for the Auckland domestic cricket team. His performance in more than 50 games has impressed everyone. He played three games and scored over 40 points each time. He was also a bowler and had one of his best figures against the Wellington Firebirds: 5 for 44 and 4 for 23 against Canterbury.

His performance earned him selection in the New Zealand Twenty20 squad against South Africa. He performed well enough to be selected in the ‘Cricinfo Champions League T20 XI’. In 2016 and 2017, he represented Derby County and Kent County Cricket Club in the “NatWest T20 Blast” series respectively. Neesham signed a one-year contract with the Wellington Firebirds in June 2018. Interestingly, his professional debut in Auckland came in 2011 against the Wellington Firebirds. Neesham also became New Zealand’s highest scorer in a single match, scoring 34 points in a match, with five sixes. He achieved this feat on January 3, 2019, against Sri Lanka.

On April 17, 2019, James Neesham took to Twitter to post about the knockout match in the IPL in which MS Dhoni was involved. In one match, Dhoni was declared not out by the third umpire. Neesham posted a photo and tweeted –

In the tweet, he claimed that Dhoni was out, but it looked like he was not out, just because of the wrong angle of the shot. After his tweet, Indian fans came under heavy criticism for his tweet and explained why Dhoni was not out. A few days later, he deleted his previous tweet about Dhoni and also posted another tweet explaining why he deleted his tweet and why he did not want to participate further in the discussion –
