Almost 50 years later, Jamie Lee Curtis is still the quintessential last girl.
The Oscar winner celebrated his 45th anniversary Halloween in a heartfelt Instagram post on Wednesday, with the first slide featuring her as Laurie Strode in the 1978 film that started the popular slasher franchise that spans decades.
In another slide, a doctored image shows Curtis, 64, kissing the forehead of an older Laurie, who she played in the latest trilogy that began in 2018. Halloween and concluded with 2022 Halloween is ending.
“45 years ago today, 17 days into the shoot, a cheap horror film, Halloween, set in Haddonfield, Illinois, where a young babysitter, Laurie, walked, met the man who would terrorize her, and her community was set free,” he began. Curtis in her dedication to the film, which marked her debut on the big screen.

She went on to give props to director/co-writer John Carpenter, producer/co-writer Debra Hill and “a motley crew of young, independent filmmakers who battled together for an intense three weeks in 1978.”
“None of us knew that 45 years later we would be retelling and retelling that same, simple story of good and evil, and that it would become a feminist icon, the last girl,” Curtis said. “This movie and Laurie Strode gave me the career that I continue to have because of her.”
For another photo in the post, the actress wrote: “This image shot for the 2018 promotion by @aspictures @michelomeronyc embodies the trauma and resilience of victims of unexpected violence and the human instinct to survive.”
“Happy Halloween, everyone,” Curtis added, concluding with Laurie’s famous quote about villain Michael Myers from the end of the film: “It was a bogeyman.”

A young adult herself at the time, Curtis first portrayed teenage nanny Laurie Strode in Halloween in the late 70s, where she survived masked killer Michael Myers for the first time on All Saints’ Eve.
Curtis probably never imagined that her fight with Myers would span seven film sequels, including Halloween II (1981), Resurrection for Halloween (2002) and Halloween kills (2021) — let alone culminate 44 years later in the showdown between Laurie and Myers in 2022. Halloween is ending.
“As I play Laurie for the last time, in Halloween is endingthe final installment of the franchise, I’m trying to figure out how to say goodbye to Laurie, who taught me the meaning of the words ‘resilience,’ ‘loyalty,’ ‘perseverance,’ and ‘COURAGE,’” Curtis wrote in honor of her character in an exclusive essay for PEOPLE in October in 2022
She added: “It’s over now for Laurie and me. I’m crying as I write this. I will miss him. Movies are fiction, but this is my real life. She made mine better.”
