News about Jane Mangan
One of the many superstars competing in three Grade One races at Fairyhouse on Sunday is Honeysuckle, who will be looking to make it to 17 consecutive wins in the Bar One Racing Hatton Grace Hurdle, according to Racing TV’s Jane Mangan. Watch Racing TV to see all the action live!
Champ Kiely came as a surprise. In his rules debut in May, he won the bumper by as many as he wanted. His last outing in Tipperary was impressive as Fred Winter winner Brazil has confirmed his form ever since and he was impressively beaten by Champ Kiely.
Hercule Du Seuil, who recently had a successful run at Navan, is another horse owned by Willie Mullins. There he was enthusiastic, he is the favorite and not exactly the easiest, and Luke Dempsey will have a lot of work ahead of him.
Interestingly, Patrick Mullins rides Ashroe Diamond, who won the bumper at Aintree last year and was impressive on her hurdle debut at Naas. Polo Lounge and Ashroe Diamond are also owned by Mullins. But I think he needs to move closer to the geldings.
Irish Point is a candidate I really like on this. The Gordon Elliott driver completely demolished the field when he triumphed in Cork a few weeks ago after winning the Grade One AQPS Bumper at Saint-Cloud a year ago. He enters this race under the radar as we’ve only seen him in an obstacle course so far. I am interested in how he will manage because, despite his inexperience, I think he can surprise.
I’m happy to say that Marine Nationale seems to be the real deal and Barry Connell has a good horse. He won the bumper and his first hurdle at Punchestown and we haven’t even scratched the surface of his potential.
Connell has hired Michael O’Sullivan to ride all of his horses, so it’s going to be a challenging ride for him. Connell’s decision to stay with him despite the fact that he is a 5-pound mount competing in grade one races is a major leap of faith.
We could see a star emerge from this deep path. Although Davy Russell didn’t ask him many questions, I think Three Stripe Life would have won at Naas even if the Grand Jury hadn’t finished next to last. He was a Grade One winner at Aintree and a 148-rated hurdler who also finished behind a pair of Willie Mullins’ horses last season, making him a very capable hurdler. He was less than
