News 5 meteorologist Janessa Webb travels to the big city to experience its bright lights. Later this summer, the certified meteorologist and storm tracker will work as a meteorologist and on-air producer for NBC News. She will operate out of 30 Rock’s New York headquarters and will contribute to MSNBC’s weather reports as well as its “Early Today” show.
In the new position, Webb will work with former Cleveland meteorologist Al Roker, as well as the NBC/MSNBC National Weather Team, which also includes Dylan Dreyer and Bill Karins. The Anchorage native admitted leaving Cleveland was a tough choice.
“Absolutely. Three years ago when I moved from Alaska, it was a major leap of faith for me,” he added. I think the people I’ve met in Cleveland are amazing.
He cited two other meteorologists, Mark Johnson and Jason Nicholas, as his mentors. She also expresses her gratitude to Vijesta 5 host Danita Harris for instilling in her a sense of family.
She noted, “Even though I’m not from here, this city accepted me well. I have a deep love for Northeast Ohio. I became the woman I always wanted to be because of this location.”
In addition to the people, Webb mentioned that she will miss the food, the locally run neighborhood and her efforts at area schools and women’s prisons.
