Janet Jackson Kicks Off Newest Las Vegas Residency with 43-Song Setlist — Including Her First-Ever Single!

Janet Jackson takes Las Vegas on another adventure

The pop icon kicked off her self-titled residency at Resorts World in Sin City on Monday, and she wasn’t shy about mixing in some cult classics with her No. 1 hits. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 — including her chart-topper, “When I Think Of You.”

For more than two hours, Jackson, 58, danced alongside her five backup dancers and followed the gambit of her career, performing songs from top albums Control, Rhythm Nation 1814 and Everything for you.

However, the first 30 minutes were dominated by deep cuts for die-hards, including “Young Love,” which she hadn’t performed in over a decade.

“I haven’t done this version of the song since 1998,” she said before segueing into “I Get Lonely” from Velvet rope. “I had red hair then.” Pretty much, the stage was surrounded by red lights and the fire became part of the presentation.

The entire evening had something for every fan.

The five-time Grammy winner’s performance of “If” from 1993 Janet album included the iconic dance he performs at the end of the music video — delighting fans who jumped to their feet to celebrate the nostalgic moment.

Although the set list technically consisted of 43 songs, Jackson didn’t deliver each song in its entirety, opting instead to perform snippets of songs in seamless flow, like “Scream” transitioning into “Black Cat” or “What Have You” Done for Me Lately” turns into “Nasty”.

Jackson rarely stopped moving during the performance and even let the live camera into her dressing room as she briefly dressed up before the encore.

“We’ve been working really hard rehearsing for the residency and I can’t wait to see you all there,” she told fans in a video shared on Instagram days before the premiere.

The show is Jackson’s second Vegas residency. In 2019, the “Miss You Much” singer performed her set of Metamorphosis 18 times at Park MGM, earning a reported $13 million.

The 10-date residency comes on the heels of Jackson’s 35-city Together Again Tour, which took place in large-capacity arenas and outdoor amphitheatres. Jackson’s Vegas show is vastly different and far more intimate as the Resorts World Theater seats 5,000.
