Janet Jackson Recalls Big Outfit Mishap While Performing for Queen Elizabeth: 'Pants Split Right in My Booty Crack'

Janet Jackson had a royally embarrassing moment in the ’90s — and she may never fully recover.

As she looks back at some of her most memorable fashion outfits British VogueThe 58-year-old “All for You” singer showed off the outfit she wore for her 1990 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony and the ensemble that has become synonymous with her album Rhythm Nation 1814.

She said the all-black look was inspired by Ray Bradbury’s book Fahrenheit 451. The shirt had a mockneck and silver plating on it, but said she added “a lot more” to it in the form of more silver plating with the help of fashion designer Bill Whitten, who she found through his brothers. (Whitten created several of Michael Jackson’s most famous works.)

“He did a wonderful job, a wonderful job,” she said. “Funny story about this outfit. I was performing for the Queen of England and we were doing ‘Rhythm Nation.’ Of course, as soon as I crouched I couldn’t believe it happened, and then I started feeling the air, so I knew it really happened. ”

Jackson said she was extremely careful never to turn her back on Queen Elizabeth, lest she accidentally “flash” her something she should never see. It wasn’t easy to do, as part of the choreography actually required her to turn around – but she just adapted.

“I was just looking ahead,” she revealed.

Wearing Thom Browne clothing for British Vogue video, Jackson also touched on her current working relationship with the designer, including how he dressed her for her most recent North American tour.

“I’m so happy he became a friend,” she said. “There are certain designers that to me are just genius. Thom is right. He’s a genius and he did this for me for the tour. And I think he did it for him, but also for me.”

The outfit was a sequin-covered jumpsuit made to look like a suit with a tie that really feels like a mix of Jackson’s and Browne’s aesthetics.
