John Owen Lowe loves his home in Los Angeles.
The 28-year-old writer and actor, son of Rob Lowe and Sheryl Berkoff, recently spoke with The house is beautiful to talk about the layered artistic haven he calls home.
“I don’t think the beauty of a house is limited to some sort of thematic purpose,” he began in the Sept. 4 article.

“I’ve been there almost a year and a half and I still feel dizzy every time I walk through the door,” John Owen said of his San Fernando Valley residence.
An actor who stars in a Netflix series Unstable with his father, 60, he said The house is beautiful that one of the advantages of the roughly 2,700-square-foot home was the amount of natural light the property lets in, adding that “the overall energy is so welcoming.”

“I feel less bad because I sit at my desk most days and write,” said John Owen. “I feel like I’m half outside and part of the world.”
When it came time to move into his four-bedroom, four-bathroom home, he enlisted the help of his mother, 63, a former interior designer who now makes a living as a jewelry designer.
“She has a great eye for design and if I hadn’t enjoyed the homes we lived in growing up, I wouldn’t have asked for her help,” said the young star.

According to John Owen, Berkoff helped him find a balance in choosing a property that wasn’t as cold as a cold museum, but still included an artistic feel.
“I go to a lot of houses that are kind of one or the other,” he said. “She helped me find the two that fit them best.”
In addition to the abundance of lighting that drew him to the home, the Stanford University student especially enjoyed a certain renovation after the home became his.

“It took forever, but I’m a big fan of sitting in the hot tub at night to relax,” he said of his Jacuzzi, which flows into his outdoor pool.
Each part of the house has a special purpose. For example, John Owen uses his garage as a makeshift painting studio, which also houses gym equipment.

“We literally bought some canvases and just stood together and took different parts, painting on the same canvas at the same time,” John Owen said of creating art with his friend Paris Brosnan, Pierce Brosnan’s 23-year-old son.
John Owen maintains his personal space by keeping it organized and even hired a professional organizer to help him.

“I keep it pretty neat,” he said. “I definitely have a bit of OCD in that regard.”
He concluded the interview by saying that he might do more renovations in the future, and since then he’s learned that “the best way to learn is to dive right in.”
