Poor Jan Brady had to handle a lot. Brady crowdThe eternally awkward middle sister was constantly overshadowed by her older sister Marcia, worried about her appearance and romantic appearance and over -eager to stand out in her family and in school.
But at least one teenage indignation on the character came as a relief for actress Eve Plumb: Jan’s glasses.
In the last episode of their Brady Bunch Review the podcast Real Brady BrosCostari Barry Williams and Christopher Knight found that the creative team of the show wrote the episode of the season 3 about Jan who needed glasses so Plumb could wear his actual specifications in the series.
“Did she wear glasses in the first two seasons that was not allowed to wear because the character did not have them, and finally reached the point where she really needed to wear glasses for performance, to see the stairs down?” Knight asked, 67 ,. “I don’t even know the answer to that. I’ll have to ask you. ”

Wills, 70, could not remember whether Plumb had worn contact lenses in the early season or simply did without glasses. He compared, allowing Plumba to wear glasses as her character with other younger members of the show in the show that carry their marriages on the screen. But Williams pointed out that Brady Bunch The writers have ever built the story of the episode around the character of Maureen McCormick, Marcia, getting bras – despite the fact that McCormick really never had to get brains in real life.
“In this case, it’s a real article,” Knight said. “Eva wore glasses. And I have to believe it was easier for her to wear those glasses as a character.”

He continued that the real actress glasses were probably some of the burden for the cinematographer of the show. “Because lighting on glasses bounces,” Knight explained. “If they have someone who is a scenario, like Clark Kent wearing glasses, you know, at that time, they would just have frames. There are no glasses inside those frames to look like they have glasses.”

Barry Williams praise “very intentional attempts” to diversify themselves Brady crowd Throwing
“It is clear that Eve was supposed to be glasses. So you know, how worrying it was for cinema with a lack of time we had in setting up the recording, they had to go to it,” he continued. “So I don’t know what conversations have happened between plums and [series creator Sherwood Schwartz] leading to this and how much in advance they were signaling, you know: ‘Eva suffers from that [wear] Glasses as her character. ‘Maybe it was in the second season, so they were ready for it in the third season. ”
In his summary of the episode, Williams said that Plumb “looked great” in the first recording of Jan who wore new glasses.
“The glasses were, like, perfect, I thought,” he said. “They weren’t feverish at all. They really just looked, ‘Oh, okay. Yes. Stylish.’ ”
“These were her glasses. These are the glasses she wore,” Knight added. “She looked good in them. You know, they didn’t need to change anything there. And she could see through her glasses, so she could use them.”
