News about Jared Greenberg

For Jared Greenberg, it all started when he enrolled in a television production elective at Mahwah High School. A freshman surrounded mainly by seniors, Greenberg was passionate about sports and athletics and longed to gain the skills necessary to compete at a high level.

Although he admits he struggled academically and athletically, he maintained a passion for professional sports and regularly listened to the radio, watched ESPN and followed other sports news.

One day in class, Greenberg’s high school instructor informed the class that Ramapo College-affiliated radio station WRPR 90.3 FM was looking for volunteers from the high school to operate the whiteboard and program music for the broadcast.

Greenberg made the most of the opportunity because he couldn’t wait to find a way to continue playing professional sports. Greenberg, who was 14 at the time, recalls his father taking him to the station on his first day there and turning on the FM transmitter. Already then he knew that he wanted to work in the electronic media sector.

After some time spent broadcasting music, he asked the management of the radio station to host a sports talk show. The station was open to the idea and gave him a chance to be a pioneer. He then requested permission to call the play-by-play for various college basketball and baseball games.

Greenberg stated that compared to other activities at the university, “I spent more time on that radio station and [was more] included there.” “I recognize the value of education and the need to work in classes, but I believe that gaining practical experience is the key to success in this field. Real world experience is something that I believe is overlooked in radio stations. and university television.

Greenberg completed a public relations internship with the New York Giants near the end of his academic career. Soon after, Greenberg was asked to intervene on short notice after radio host Bob Papa failed to show up for a home game. Greenberg did his best to adjust immediately.

“I got to work with Chris Carlin, who often filled in for Bob or did our postgame show; it was the most surreal experience,” Greenberg said. “I just learned from Bob Papa and Carl Banks, and started working with Chris Carlin, who often filled in for Bob or did our postgame show.” “…I’ve been a close friend and mentor to Ian Eagle for years, so I have two of the best play-by-play announcers in football. [and] only [get] be so close [them] and learn from [them] it’s really invaluable to me,” said Ian Eagle.

At the same time, Greenberg was employed by the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League, an independent team, where he handled media relations and broadcast all road games. He previously worked for the organization when he was still in high school.

Greenberg had focused on radio work up to this point in his career, in part because it was the medium in which he gained the most experience. However, his early opportunities to work as a sideline reporter on various television shows at Hofstra University increased his awareness of the possibility of a career in television.

As a contract reporter for News 12, Greenberg was tasked with reporting in person and utilizing all available multimedia tools. After that, he was occasionally asked to host the nightly sports news segment.
