Jason Momoa is showing his true colors on his new show — and it’s usually baby pink.
In his upcoming MAX series ‘On the Roam’ (premiering January 18), The Aquaman the star travels the country meeting the creatives he admires the most, where they work and delving into their worlds.
“That’s me on the road and all the things I like to do. And all the things I’ve never done in my life, but I did Wanted do,” he tells PEOPLE.
The lifelong motorcycle enthusiast travels to North Carolina, for example, to restore historic bikes with the world’s best experts—and race them on a death-defying dirt track with a self-created gang called the “Roamers.” Comes with a custom made pastel pink bike based on an antique model. (He also owns a pink Cadillac.)
While some might keep such a collector’s item behind glass, Momoa says, “I drove it yesterday. I’m going to drive it tomorrow with my friends. It looks good, right?”
In the second episode, after meeting legendary guitarist Slash, he visits the Gibson Guitars headquarters in Tennessee to recreate some incredibly rare instruments. Full disclosure: most of his passions revolve around music and motorcycles.
The whimsical, cinematic episodes don’t follow a set formula, but meander in a way that reflects Momo’s travel style. “Each episode just evolves into its own thing. Some of them turn into therapy sessions,” he shares. “That’s the beauty of it. It’s very intimate and obviously, for me, very revealing.”
When asked what surprised him the most about how the show turned out, he admits: “There’s so much heart in it. I watched it with my kids.” (He shares daughter Lola, 16, and son Nakoa-Wolf, 15, with ex Lisa Bonet.) “There are a lot of moments of heart that you didn’t see at the very beginning. I knew if I was going to do it, it would be serious, but it would be fun , action and laughs. So I’m really happy that there are moments of tenderness, and that’s me,” he adds.

During the entire trip, Game of Thrones the alum has no qualms about expressing his enthusiasm and raucousness. “I’m either going to piss you off or you’re going to like it,” he jokes.
As Momoa travels to unexpected places to continue his adventures, the show is much more about the personalities he meets than the locations they happen to occupy.
The star, who also served as executive producer and director of the show, clearly doesn’t believe in the adage “don’t meet your heroes.” As he goes “hunting” the fog-shrouded suburban landscapes of the Bay Area with his favorite photographer, Todd Hida, or races through the fields on vintage motorcycles with American pickers Mike Wolfe, it feels more like Momoa is discovering new best friends.
“Everyone on the show was wonderful and I’m still friends with them and we talk,” he says.
His desire for the series is to arouse in the viewers the same curiosity that he carries. “I hope that [it] it inspires you to maybe open up some of those things you’ve put off in your life. . . And at the same time, I hope you can just laugh at me being a dork and actually being who I really am.”
On the bum will be available to stream on January 18th on MAX.
