Jayshree Ullal, also known as Jayshree Vedantham Ullal, is an Indian-American businesswoman. She is the CEO of Arista Networks. She goes by various names such as Jayshree G Ullal, J Ullal, G Ullal, and V Ullal.

Jayshree Ullal was born on Monday, March 27, 1961, in London (60 years old in 2021). She spent the first 5 years of her life in London before moving to India to study ger at Covent of Jesus & Marry in New Delhi. She received her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from San Francisco State University and her master’s degree in engineering management from Santa Clara University.

Jayshree’s father, Sudarajan Vedantham (a physicist), and her mother, Nirmala Vedantham, are two of the founders of the Indian Institutes of Technology, a group of higher education centers established to train scientists and engineers after India gained independence from British colonial rule in 1947.

Jayshree started her career as a chip designer at a semiconductor company, developing high-speed chips for big companies like IBM and Hitachi. She worked in the semiconductor industry for 11 years. In 1988, she joined Ungermann-Bass, where she developed a keen interest in marketing. The company had an annual turnover of $40 million by developing and selling networking products. Soon, Ullal planned to join a startup, Crescendo Communications. In 1993, the company was acquired by Cisco Systems. At that time, Cisco was a well-known company. As an executive at Cisco, she managed Cisco’s business in key enterprise markets, including wiring closet switching, data center backbones for increasing layer 2-3 convergence, and customer premises equipment for remote WAN access. Cisco was emerging as one of the leading companies in the LAN switching business, with annual sales of $5 million. She also served as senior vice president of the data center and switching business and oversaw more than 20 mergers and acquisitions. Later, she exited the company in 2008 and joined Arista Networks. Arista Networks co-founders Andy Bechtolsheim and David Cheriton appointed Jayshree Ullal as CEO and President of Arista Networks in October 2008. Initially, when Jayshree joined the company, it was only 4 years old, had 50 employees, and had low revenue. In June 2014, the company successfully went public, increasing its market value from $2.7 billion to $20 billion under the ticker symbol ANET. In addition, Arista is a cloud networking company responsible for deploying 10/25/40/50/100 Gigabit Ethernet networks in data centers.

    My sister Susie died of lung cancer at the age of 46. I worked at her bedside for several months, and one of the most valuable lessons she taught me was to deeply value our lives and the connections we make. After Susie’s death, my family set up the SITA Women’s Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting the education of girls internationally, especially in areas where schooling is difficult. SITA also funds cancer research.
