Jeff Daniels looks back on the scene he thought would sink his career.
The Fully human said the star, 69 USA Today that he took a big risk by starring opposite Jim Carrey in the 1994 comedy Dumb and Dumber like harry “dumber” two friends who go on a road trip to Aspen, Colorado, to return her briefcase to a woman named Mary.
Daniels’ agents warned him against taking the role in the Peter and Bobby Farrelly film because he was a “serious actor”.
He also felt that he had to arrange extremely unusual comedy scenes because he knew that the film studio originally wanted to hire an experienced comedian for the role.

But Guest artist star admitted he was worried the famous scene – in which Harry has a bout of extreme indigestion in Mary’s toilet after drinking laxative tea – would “finish” his acting career.
“It’s one thing to read the toilet scene, but then the day comes and we’re actually going to do the toilet scene,” he told USA Today. “I told Jim, ‘This is either the beginning of my career or the end of it.’ ”

Daniels called Carrey, 62 – who played the slightly smarter half of the duo, Lloyd – “fearless”.
Mask star encouraged her co-star before filming the infamous scene. “[He] he told me: ‘It will be great. You just have to go all the way,’ Daniels said USA Today.
The actor took Carrey’s words to heart. “It was a few hours of porcelain gymnastics,” he recalled of the shoot. “And that close-up when they get a firm grip on my red face. I did it for so long I almost passed out.”

His dedication paid off, not to mention the fact that his work caught the eye of Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood, who introduced himself to Daniels at a celebrity golf tournament shortly after the film was released.
Clint tells me, ‘I just saw it Dumb and Dumber, and do you know the toilet scene? That’s what happened to me,’ Daniels said USA Today. “And then he tells a story about going out with this woman he really wanted to impress, but the shell hit him the wrong way from lunch.”
“As far as comedic scenes go, that toilet scene will probably outlive us,” he added jokingly. “It will be funny in 40 years.”
