Jennifer Aniston and More Celebs Are Inspiring Me to Ditch Little Purses for These More Spacious Bag Styles

Summer is here and I feel myself changing with the seasons. I’m more sociable, freer and my tan is getting better — that’s all to be expected. What’s different about this year is my desire to break away from the collection of tiny purses I’ve cultivated and the minimalist attitude I have around packing them (phone, wallet, keys, and sunnies). I declare it BBS: Big Bag Summer.

As a big bag virgin, I needed some shopping inspiration, so I looked to the stars. Katie Holmes is always buzzing around NYC with Mansur Gavriel handbags, like the oversized Maxi Candy Leather Hobo. And the image of Nicole Kidman at Sydney Airport has been running through my head since October; she’s carrying a tan leather bag that looks like it’s from The Row, sadly out of my $2,390 price range. There’s also this photo of Jennifer Aniston Murder mystery 2where her character carries a beautiful straw and leather bag.

My goal for warm weather accessories is to stay away from black because the color is such a safe place for me and is kind of the antithesis of summer. I like the soft texture of the Holmes bag, but with travel and weddings coming up this time of year, I’m not ready for its price ($895).

This Mango bag, on sale for $56, is a versatile brown with an adjustable strap and magnetic closure. I love that it has a central zippered pocket that can hold small, important items like keys, as well as prevent everything from falling into the pit at the bottom (something that has put me off large bags in the past). Nordstrom notes that the capacity is large at 14 inches wide by 13.75 inches high by 5.5 inches deep.

Holmes actually owns this very Madewell bag (in a burgundy similar to her style above – we love a woman who knows what she likes). In an ecru shade, one of the eight colors the best-selling handbag comes in, it could pass as a cousin — maybe a second cousin — of Kidman’s beautiful but pricey leather bag from Olsen’s dual designer label, The Row.

Features include a magnetic closure, an interior pocket, and an interior size spacious enough for a 15-inch laptop.
