Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms are nothing but professionals.

“There are so many layers of horrible awkwardness,” Helms, 49, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “Yeah, that was very funny. I think we ruined a bunch of examples of that.”

Garner, 51, goes on to explain, “If I’m in my mom’s body and I’m kissing my dad, I’m kissing my dad, and I’m also kissing my brother because my brother is in my dad’s body. There’s so much wrong with that.”

The two actors admitted that it was difficult for them to keep a straight face during the film’s many hilarious moments. “It was a tie. I feel like we both made a lot of mistakes,” Helms says. Adds Garner: “You can’t put me in a scene with Ed Helms and expect me not to break down. I’m sorry. That’s not going to happen.”

During the production, Helms, who is a husband and father (he doesn’t publicly reveal his family’s names) admits that he “found myself thinking about what my kids are going through and how they might be thinking,” he says. “That’s why the premise of Body Swap is so timeless — because it asks audiences to think more about the people we’re close to and the ways we connect and disconnect. I hope people take a little more perspective from this film. But it also laughs.”

As for Garner, she hopes that “little kids, teenagers, adults, parents, grandparents, everyone will see something for themselves in the movie and enjoy it,” she adds. “If there’s a tear or a swollen heart at the end? You just made my Christmas better.”

Family switch begins streaming on Netflix on November 30.
