Jennifer Garner Says Reese Witherspoon Was ‘There’ During a ‘Very Public, Very Hard Moment in My Life’

Jennifer Garner can always count on the support of Reese Witherspoon.

Garner, 51, said the actress and producer, 47, was there for her during a “very public, very difficult moment in my life” during a panel discussion at Hello Sunshine’s Inaugural Shine On Event in Los Angeles on Saturday.

“I remember how I was pregnant. This one [Witherspoon] he was sitting next to me,” said Garner — who was on the panel with Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling. “I remember going through a very public, very difficult time in my life. She was there and the way I was supposed to get through it was dance cardio.”

The Yes day the actress didn’t reveal what difficult moment she was referring to, but she did share her and Witherspoon’s experiences with the athletic form of dance.

“And I danced cardio so hard we broke her foot, but she kept going!” she said. “It was like, okay, we practiced at seven on vacation, we’re going to practice again at two. She said, ‘I’ll be there. I’ll be there.’ ‘ ”

Garner married Ben Affleck in 2005, and the couple divorced in 2018. They have three children, daughters Violet, 17, and Seraphina, 13, and son Samuel, 11. Affleck, 51, remarried Jennifer Lopez in July 2022.

Elsewhere in the panel discussion, Garner praised Witherspoon for her support as a parent. “She’ll also look at you and say, ‘Okay, you’ve got to find daycare. This child is two and a half years old and they are due to start next month. You really have to get a grip on this,’ she said.

Jennifer Garner opened up about her friendship with Reese Witherspoon on a panel at Hello Sunshine’s Shine Away event on Saturday.

Saturday’s Shine On event was first organized by Hello Sunshine — the media company founded by Witherspoon in 2016 — with the goal of bringing the Hello Sunshine community together in person.

At the event, Garner also spoke about how Witherspoon has provided a space for her and other actresses to speak freely about their industry without being silenced or monitored.

“Those meetings happened at Reese’s house. And it was the first time that I sat with so many actresses in the same room that we didn’t pass each other at an award show in big dresses, where we just sat there,” 13 Continues 30 the star continued. “We were driven out of one place.”

“The place that doesn’t happen, the place that started the change where it can’t happen anymore is Hello Sunshine. It’s just the truth,” Garner stated.

Kaling, 44, also spoke highly of Witherspoon during the panel, describing her as “obviously so funny and so talented,” before praising her “as a friend, a person who can tell you hard things and you believe her.”

Elsewhere at the event, which Fortune Feimster also attended, Tracee Ellis Ross and the founder of Hello Sunshine sat down for a separate discussion. Witherspoon also revealed that she will be making a Reese’s Book Club selection for November Maybe next time by Cesc Major.

The Home again the actress described the event as a “dream come true” in a post on her Instagram Story afterward.

“I loved, loved, loved talking to these two about the power of connection,” Witherspoon captioned a photo of Garner and Kaling at the event.
