Sir David Jason has met his actress daughter many times without being aware of their family connection. It comes after The Mirror reported that Sir David discovered that he has a daughter, 52, with Jennifer Hill. Since he met Abi Harris, the two have seen each other several times and have spent part of the holiday season together.
However, the paths of father and daughter had crossed several times through mutual friends…but she had no idea they were related. Geoffrey Davion, the movie star who starred in The Stars Look Down and Miss Marple was married to Jennifer. Until his death in 1996, Abi thought that he was his father.
Sir David and Jennifer, who previously worked together on Under Milk Wood and the James Bond films Octopussy and Doctor Who, reunited in 2008 for a remake of the film. But it took Aba another five years before she began to wonder if Sir David was her biological father.
Abi and Sir David were standing side by side on one occasion when she discovered that they had identical features. His desire for action was fueled by witnessing the maturing of 10-year-old Charlie, his son and David’s grandson. Abi bravely decided to write a letter to Sir David asking him to do a paternity test.
When the test came back positive, the family met at the Landmark Hotel in Marylebone, central London, to explore how to connect. Says Abi, “I’m starting to put together my own identity as I learn who my father is. “Of course, I am very happy and extremely satisfied, but I am also constantly overwhelmed with sadness for the lost years.
After a cautious start, I now hope that we can intentionally plan more time to spend together so that I can hone the ability to be the best big sister and create a meaningful father-daughter relationship in the truest sense of the word.
