Jennifer Lawrence Jokes Being a Bride Was ‘Awful’ and ‘So Stressful’: ‘You’re Not Having Fun’

Jennifer Lawrence admits that the bride is under a lot of stress.

While walking the red carpet at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, the 33-year-old actress opened up about her 2019 wedding to husband Cooke Maroney and how she spent much of her special day worrying about her guests instead of enjoying the moment.

Lawrence joked to E! News that she found parts of the experience “awful” and “so stressful” as she tried to convince herself that she was a good host.

“You’re not having fun. You’re just asking, ‘Is this person having fun?’ ” she explained.

The No anger star recalled making sure her guests were cold at the wedding, which took place at the historic Belcourt of Newport mansion in Newport, Rhode Island.

“I’ll never forget — I was freaking out because the guests were cold and all my friends were lying. They were saying, ‘Nobody’s cold, nobody’s cold, everything’s fine, everything’s fine,'” she told E ! News.

Worse, Lawrence’s mother confirmed her fears. “My mom said, ‘It’s cold outside. Your grandma almost died,'” she revealed.

“I looked over and saw Bob, who doesn’t know anybody and was kind of wandering around, and I immediately said, ‘No, this is not what he wants to do. I don’t want him here,'” she explained. “So I went over and whispered, I said, ‘Go home,’ and he was nice – he talked to my parents and he was polite – but I said, ‘Go.’ ”

Although she may have been anxious on her big day, Lawrence partied late into the night with her wedding guests. A source told PEOPLE at the time of the wedding that Hunger Games star and Maroney were “the last to leave at 5:30 a.m.”

“It was an all-night party,” the source said. “They waited until all the guests had left so they could say goodbye in person. When they left, Jen looked happy.”

Last year, Lawrence also recalled feeling a little overwhelmed when her husband proposed. “[It was] scary, but very, very exciting,” she said in Amelia Dimoldenberg’s YouTube series Chicken shop date.

“I didn’t say what I wanted to,” she continued. “I imagined it a million times, and then finally I was just like, ‘What? What? What?’ And then he said: ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you.’ ”

The couple, who celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary in October, have since welcomed a son born in April 2022.
