Bear star Liza Colón-Zayas is celebrating her big win at the 2024 Emmys!
Latin stars are praising Colón-Zayas, 52, after she took home her first ever Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Shortly after receiving the milestone, John Leguizamo gave Allswell in New York in his speech he emphasized the importance of hiring different talents.
“My friend Liza Colón-Zayas — won for Beara charming story about white men obsessed with Michelin stars and making kale delicious,” he joked, also naming Latina actresses Selena Gomez, Sofia Vergara, Issa López and Nava Ma (who is also the first transgender person ever to be nominated for a limited series acting Emmy).
Sheryl Lee Ralph also dedicated an Instagram post to Colón-Zayas, sharing photos of the two along with a video of them dancing in their dresses.

“When my sister @lizacolonzayas_lcz won, it felt like I won too! Her talent, her brilliance, her heart – it all shined on that stage,” Ralph wrote in the caption. “I deserve this moment Liza, watching you win was like watching a dream unfold! Congratulations my sister. You deserve this moment and more! #emmy.”
Jennifer Lopez opened her Instagram Stories to celebrate the actress.
“Yayyyy @lizacolonzayas_lcz 👏👏👏,” Lopez wrote above a video of Colón-Zayas receiving her award.

In her own speech, Colón-Zayas acknowledged the people in her life who have helped her get to where she is today, and she singled out Ralph, 67, and other famous colleagues for their success.
“Thanks for hanging up on me,” she joked. “Thanks to my husband David Zayas, he told me to write a speech and I didn’t, because I didn’t think it would be possible. How could I think it would be possible to be in the presence of Meryl Streep and Carol Burnett and Janelle and Sheryl Lee Ralph. I love you to the bottom of my heart. My family, my grandchildren, thank you.”
“Thank you for giving me new life with this show. And to all the Latina women watching me, keep believing and vote. Vote for your rights.” she concluded her speech.

Her victory was only one of bear’with 11 wins and a total of 23 nominations this year. The series also won Outstanding Cast, Writing and Direction. It was also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Colón-Zayas stars as Tina Marrero in the hit FX series, which follows a Chicago restaurant and its eclectic kitchen staff as they work their way up in the kitchen of Chef Carmy (played by Jeremy Allen White, who won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series).
