Jennifer Lopez 'Didn't Want a Divorce' from Ben Affleck but 'Seems Relieved' After Filing (Exclusive Source)

It looks like Jennifer Lopez is ready to move on after filing for divorce from Ben Affleck.

The source is close Satin actress, 55, tells PEOPLE that she’s “just fine” nearly a week after filing for divorce on Aug. 20, the two-year anniversary of their wedding in Georgia.

“It was incredibly difficult for her that Ben decided to walk away from their marriage and move on with his life, leaving her,” says the source. “She didn’t want a divorce. She wanted to figure things out. They love each other. Jennifer is not the type to just give up. It was almost torture for her to wait.”

And “after she filed for divorce, she seems relieved,” the source adds.

“Her family and friends agree that it was the right decision,” says the source. “She’s surrounded by a lot of love and support. She’ll be fine. She’s strong and always pulls through.”

Jennifer Lopez is asking to drop Ben Affleck’s last name from the divorce papers

Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, in Los Angeles County Superior Court without a lawyer present.

Following news of Lopez’s divorce filing, a source told PEOPLE that she was “trying really hard to make things work and is heartbroken.”

The actress-singer’s decision to file for divorce without a lawyer marks a move that is both unusual and an indication that she “just wanted to get this done” and move forward, a legal expert told PEOPLE.

Marilyn Chinitz, a married partner at Blank Rome LLP who is not connected to the case, said of Lopez’s filing for herself, “I think she probably just wanted to get this done, [that] there was a lot of hesitancy and wavering and jerking back and forth, and that’s the statement, ‘I’m going forward, bearing up and doing it myself.’ ”

Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in April 2021, years after they first dated and got engaged, before postponing their planned wedding in September 2003 and splitting in January 2004.
