Jennifer Lopez Says Her Daring Silver Unstoppable Premiere Dress Almost Didn't Happen (Exclusive)

The head-turning dress that Jennifer Lopez wore on Unstoppable the world premiere almost stayed at home!

Stop by PEOPLE/Entertainment Weekly suite a day after the sports biopic’s Sept. 6 premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Lopez, 55, told PEOPLE why she ultimately decided to wear the revealing dress — a shimmery, silver Tamara Ralph gown with head-to-toe slits tied together with oversized bows — in the city.

Simply put, she tells PEOPLE, “I felt good.”

“There was a discussion about whether I should or should not. And I was like, whoa,” she laughs about the dress.

After walking the red carpet, the “On the Floor” singer gave fans an even better look at the incredible look on Instagram, showing it off from several angles.

“📍Toronto #TIFF2024 #UnstoppableMovie,” she captioned one post, which she followed up with another simply titled, “Unstoppable.”

After the dazzling premiere look – which she completed with a metallic Judith Leiber clutch, Hassanzadeh jewelry and Dolce & Gabbana platforms – the actress followed a more muted, monochrome combination.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, Lopez returned to the festival (and stopped by the PEOPLE photo studio!) in an all-green Burberry edition — including the brand’s leather thigh-high boots, an olive sweater, and a pleated maxi skirt with a knee-high slit in a slightly muted shade.

While showing off a more understated, relaxed outfit on Instagram, which she accessorised with brown sunglasses, gold jewelery and a snakeskin handbag, the star shared a sweet message about Unstoppable premiere — which also marked her first major public appearance since filing for divorce from husband Ben Affleck on Aug. 20.

“Still on a high from last night at #TIFF2024! It was such an amazing experience to be surrounded by so much talent and passion for #UnstoppableMovie,” she captioned the post. “Grateful for every moment and the incredible energy of the city.”

Also at TIFF, Lopez compared the premiere of the William Goldenberg-directed film Unstoppable — produced by Affleck as well as his longtime friend Matt Damon — until her film premieres in 2019. Fraudsters.

Speaking about the festival’s famous Roy Thomson Hall for screenings, she told PEOPLE: “I feel like that room now has a lucky room for me, because I remember sitting there and watching Fraudsters in those seats… and thinking, ‘Wow, this movie works.’ ”

Admitting that the 2019 film – in which she plays stripper-turned-con artist Ramona Vega – had a “slightly different vibe” than Unstoppableshe continued, “Movies like that, you never know, it can go either way.”

“So to come back here with this film, which is a very different kind of film, was a really good feeling,” she added.

Adaptation of the book of the same name by Anthony Robles and Austin Murphy, Unstoppable is about real-life wrestler Robles (Jharrel Jerome).

Robles was born with one leg and won the 2011 NCAA National Championship while at Arizona State University. Lopez plays the athlete’s mom, Judy, in the film.
