They filmed B-roll of the car driving past Mitchell’s Book Corner, the Brotherhood of Thieves restaurant and the Civil War Memorial to Soldiers and Sailors on Main Street — all three locations were decorated for the Fourth of July, according to the Nantucket Current.

Speaking to the Motion Picture Association’s online magazine The Credits in September 2024, cinematographer Shane Hurlbut shared what it was like working with director Susanne Bier and fellow cinematographer Robert De Angeles.

According to Hurlbut, Bier gave him and De Angeles the freedom to design the play as long as they kept her vision. “This idea of ​​a rich, affluent, sun-drenched Fourth of July on the Cape. She described it as a ‘suspense popcorn thriller,’” he recalled.

The two cameramen made several decisions, including when shooting outdoors. Keeping in mind the intense plot of the series, they used the location as another character to heighten the story and emotions.

“We specifically did things not during the night because we felt that the script and the actors would bring out the darkness, the drama, the suspense and the skeletons in the closet,” he explained. “We wanted to have these light, airy and beautifully sun-kissed images and show you Nantucket like you’ve never seen it before.”

To tie it all together, Hurlbut and De Angeles captured the island from the sky.

“Anterna was everything to us. We flew a helicopter a mile and a half away from Nantucket and filmed the entire island as a whole,” added Hurlbut. “Roberto and I wanted to see the extent of this island and experience the glamor and wealth of Nantucket and the Cape.”

Perfect Couple it was mostly filmed in the seaside town of Chatham, located on the tip of Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

Although the scenic footage was filmed on Nantucket, there were several locations in Chatham where key moments took place, including Eastward Point. The Chatham neighborhood served as the backdrop for the show, with its single-family homes and private beaches in Pleasant Bay, po Cape Cod Times.

In addition, the production was filmed at the historic Chatham Beach and Tennis Club, located on Lighthouse Beach, as seen in one of the trailers for Perfect Couple.

The crew also transformed Northport Plaza, now home to Elwood’s Raw Bars, into the Nantucket Police Department. Netflix built an interrogation room and jail cell in the basement, which Elwood’s co-owner David Eldredge had hoped to leave behind, but didn’t.

“It was our home base, and we enhanced it with blue hydrangeas,” she explained.

Over the course of her two-decade career, Hilderbrand has written nearly 30 books from the shores of Massachusetts, and that was planned from the start.

In a May 2020 interview, the writer opened up about spending summers in Brewster, Massachusetts, where she and her family would rent a cottage every July and spend days at the beach, barbecuing and playing miniature golf. She told the paper that these were some of the “happiest moments” of her life.

Unfortunately, Hilderbrand’s father died when she was 16 and the tradition came to an abrupt end. However, she promised to return to the beach one day.

After graduating from college in Maryland and moving to New York to teach English, Hilderbrand began vacationing on Nantucket during summer vacations. Finally, in 1994, she decided to move there permanently, and six years later she published her first book, Beach club.
