Jennifer Mascott Career

As a coauthor of Administrative Law: Cases and Materials for the 2022 annual supplement and the upcoming 9th edition of the Beermann/Cass/Diver/Freeman casebook, Mascott joined the Beermann/Cass/Diver/Freeman casebook in 2022. Professor Mascott frequently contributes to the Yale Journal of Regulation’s Notice and Comment blog, where her work has been hailed as “groundbreaking” by the renowned Legal Theory Blog. In 2023, she was given the Justice Joseph Story Award, which is given annually to a young academic for their outstanding scholarship, concern for their students, and dedication to teaching in a way that advances the rule of law.

In order to work as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Counsel at the US Department of Justice, Professor Mascott left the law school in 2019. In May 2020, she received the title of Associate Subordinate Attorney General, and from November 2020 to January 2021, she held the dual positions of ADAG and OLC subordinate.

Throughout her tenure in the administration, Professor Mascott defended cases in federal appellate and trial courts in addition to fulfilling her professional duties in those two posts. She also took part in some of Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination hearings.

From 2015 to 2017, Professor Mascott served as an Olin/Searle Fellow in Law at the Georgetown University Law Centre. She had previously worked at George Washington University as a professorial lecturer in law. Professor Mascott served as a law clerk for Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

At the George Washington University Law School, where she received the highest cumulative graduating GPA ever, Professor Mascott graduated with honours.
