Jenny McCarthy Says She 'Snuck In' to Singled Out Audition After MTV Rejected Her '17 Times' for Being a Playmate

“If you have a dream, you have to take steps toward it,” McCarthy said of facing constant rejection early in her career.

Jenny McCarthy is not afraid to persevere when it comes to making her dreams come true.

On Monday in the episode Watch what’s happening livethe former Playboy Bunny recalled the early days of her career and how she ended up “going back to zero” but always believed she would “make it again” after leaving the Playboy mansion.

After countless auditions, McCarthy, 51, eventually landed the MTV anchor job Separateddating game that ran from 1995 to 1998. The feat, she said, was the result of her own sheer effort.

“I got a part on MTV, but they turned me down 17 times,” she told host Andy Cohen. “They said, ‘We’ll never have a partner to play on this network.'”

Despite constant nos, McCarthy snuck into auditions and “disguised herself” until she was one of the final two candidates for the role. Eventually, the casting directors were able to connect the dots and recognize the former model from her days with the central gaze.

“They were like, ‘Are you that friend who kept calling?’ I’m like, ‘[laughs].’ So that was it,” she said, adding that she was up against another comedian whose name she couldn’t remember.

“She was joking! I wasn’t. I was just being strong. Because you have to be with all those guys. So I was joking and I understood,” she explained.
