Jeremy Renner Talks Returning to MCU After ‘Harrowing’ Recovery from Snowplow Accident: ‘I’ll Be Ready’

Jeremy Renner can’t wait to pick up his Hawkeye bow again!

While talking to Party tonightactor — who was injured in a near-fatal snowplow accident on January 1, 2023 — gave an update on whether fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can expect him to return as the superhero with the Hawkeye arc.

“I’m always in the game,” Renner, 53, said, repeating his point the Avengers the role. “I will be strong enough, that’s for sure. I will be ready.”

The falcon’s eye star also said his MCU co-stars have been a source of support for him as he undergoes a “painful” recovery from the accident, which left him with more than 30 broken bones.

“All these guys come to my bedside,” the actor said ET. “They’ve been with me throughout this recovery, so … if they want me, they can have me. It would be something.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Renner opened up about his health, revealing that he’s doing “probably 90 percent of all the things I’m supposed to be doing.”

“I’m going to do whatever I can … whatever it takes to get better, to get stronger,” he continued. “This recovery is a one-way street. The rest of my life is about health and wellness. Recovery is going to be a part of the rest of my life, so I’m looking forward to it, man. There’s always something to do to make me better, stronger, happier, healthier, and that’s what I’m looking forward to.”

He also said that it was difficult to do anything but take things day by day.

“It’s hard for me to look back, to be honest with you,” he said. “It’s hard for me to look ahead. I’m focusing on the now and this next step that’s in front of me, because for me now there’s always another obstacle.”

Renner also expressed his gratitude not only to his Marvel colleagues, but to everyone who has stood by him over the past 13 months.

“I can’t believe I’m sitting here right now,” he said. “I’m very grateful. I’m very happy to be moving forward in life and I’m happy to share this life with the amazing people I love.”

Last month, Renner gave a shout-out to one of his fellow MCU actors — i Hurt Locker costar — Anthony Mackie for his support during the tumultuous time following his accident, which occurred when he tried to save his nephew from being run over by a snowplow.

“One of the first people at my hospital bed was Anthony Mackie. This accident. He was in Vegas,” Renner recalled on SiriusXM This Life of Mine with James Corden.

“He shot and he’s the first person I saw when I woke up,” Renner added of Mackie, 45.

Jeremy Renner says plow accident taught him ‘not to waste your life’: ‘It’s my duty’

Discussing her relationship with the actor, the The mayor of Kingstown star said that while they “don’t talk all the time,” they will always share a special bond.

“We don’t hang out all the time, because the problem is having, you know, actor friends, they’re all so busy, and now we’re all parents and we never see each other,” he added of Mackie. “We rarely talk to each other, but the connection we have is always there.”
