Career

Jerome Flynn’s career began in 1986 when he played firefighter Kenny “Rambo” Baines in the LWT television film London’s Burning. He was the only cast member unable to reprise his role (apart from Gary McDonald, whose own character, Andreas “Ethnic” Lewis, was killed off in the film) due to prior commitments when the film spawned a sequel of the same name in 1988. In 1988, he starred Freddie in the ITV thriller The Fear, which is set in the London underground.

He played DS Eddie Hargreaves in six episodes of the police drama Between The Lines (1992). Flynn starred in the ITV series “Soldier Soldier” as Corporal Paddy Garvey of the King’s Fusiliers. The series premiered in 1990. He starred in the series alongside Robson Green. After Flynn and Green sang Unchained Melody on the show, ITV was inundated with requests to buy the song, and the pair were convinced to record it and release it as a single, a double A-side with White Cliffs of Dover, recording Simon Cowell. The single was released in 1995 under the moniker Robson & Jerome and reached number one in the UK chart.

He played Bobby Charlton in the 1999 film Best. On stage, he portrayed Tommy Cooper in Jus’ Like That, an homage to the comic magician written and directed by John Fisher. He was also featured in the TV show So You Think You’re Royal? when he was found to be a direct descendant of Oliver Cromwell through his mother, as well as a descendant of Edward I, Edward II and Edward III of England. Flynn starred in four seasons of Ripper Street for the BBC, alongside Matthew Macfadyen. In 2016, he participated in the episode “Shut Up and Dance” of the anthology series Black Mirror.
