Vishnu Vinod News

Younger players are frequently produced by the Mumbai Indians out of thin air and thrown into the deep end, where they not only float but also take off. The five-time champions added Kerala wicket-keeper batsman Vishnu Vinod from the same factory that created Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Tilak Varma, and now Nehal Wadhera.

Vinod has been a member of the IPL for a few franchises in recent years, but those who have watched the IPL religiously know that he has only been allowed to warm the bench. After 6 years, he finally made it into the starting XI.

In 2017, Vinod participated in three games for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team. He subsequently had a three-year break from playing before joining the Delhi Capitals in 2021 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022. He was fought for by MI last year as well, but this year he was finally given the Blue uniform.

The 29-year-old batsman made his first-class debut for Kerala in 2016 after making his professional debut for Kerala in List-A and T20 cricket in 2014. Being a keeper, he had to compete with Sanju Samson for a berth in the domestic team, but he won that battle solely on the strength of his batting. Although he frequently opens, he has also played in the middle order and has developed.

Vinod has since participated in 50 T20 games, 46 List-A games, and 23 first-class games. Vinod is designed for white-ball cricket, as seen by his 40 List-A average and 138 T20 strike rate. Vinod scored a few nice runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, but in the DY Patil T20 Cup, he really showed off his strong form.

Vinod scored 186 runs in 5 games, with his best performance coming off just 47 balls. He therefore got the form submitted to the IPL and was awaiting his chance. He made the pundits leap out of their seats when he received the opening crack.

Against the Gujarat Titans, Vinod hit 30 off just 20 balls and his stroke went through covers for a six off. Sanjay Manjrekar, Kevin Pietersen, and Ravi Shastri were all in awe of Mohammed Shami. When MI lost three wickets quickly, they needed someone to support Suryakumar Yadav, and Vinod excelled in that capacity.
