Jessica Alba Says Stepping Down from The Honest Company Was 'Sad': 'It's a Part of Me'

Jessica Alba’s decision to leave her role as Chief Creative Officer of The Honest Company was not an easy one to make.

Two months after announcing she would step down from the top job and more than a decade after she first started the company, the 43-year-old woman of many stripes talks about how she knew it was the right decision.

“I wanted to leave it in a good place,” Alba explained on the Wednesday, June 12, episode What now? with Trevor Noah podcast.

“When I realized that the business really needed a more focused flow rather than a visionary flow, I had to start thinking about what that meant for my role, and it took me a very long time to achieve that,” she said. “I had to leave him in hands that I knew would be safe and with the right team.”

Alba said that while she finally felt she could “let my kid go to college,” it was a “sad” decision.

“It’s sad because, yeah, it’s a part of me. It’s a child. And even I like to think about my kids throughout my kids’ first day of kindergarten, I cried. You know? It’s like it’s a turning point. No I don’t think it is ever easy,” she said.

The actress said she was learning how to “sit in silence” after giving up her role at a beauty and health company. achievements. I remember when I was younger, I always felt like I had to make a point,” Alba said. “Like, what do I want to say? Like, why do I exist? Like, why did God put me here?”

Alba echoed similar sentiments in her announcement in April, expressing that she built the company as a “labor of love.” She remains on the company’s board of directors.
