Jessica Biel’s epsom salt bath went viral on May 6 before she even hit the Met Gala steps, but the star had been relying on the wellness ritual long before that moment of buzz.
“Epsom salt baths are a tool that I love and use for all things, post-travel, sore muscles, of course, magnesium, absolutely, for good sleep, for stress relief, to, you know, just feel the confidence in your body to go big event like the Met Ball, which is what I used it for,” the 42-year-old actress tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Before the Met Gala, Biel gave fans a look at her getting ready process, which included soaking 20 pounds of epsom salts in hot water the night before. “Really,” she said in a TikTok video as she showed herself pouring bath salt.
Biel shared another behind-the-scenes moment on Wednesday, May 8.
“Hey guys,” she said while munching on a salad in a TikTok video. “I was supposed to dress up for the Met, but I had to eat something.”

She explained that she was “hiding in the corner of my room” while members of her team tried to ensure she was dressed in time.
“Everybody’s, like, knocking on the door, ‘You’ve got to get dressed!'” Biel said.
“I’m just trying to tell you, bite first, eat first!” she continued.
On the Met Gala red carpet, Biel looked regal in a pink silk Tamara Ralph Couture gown and cape, which were embellished with striped coque feathers and crystals. It took 320 hours to make the ensemble.
As for choosing the look, Biel said that while pink isn’t her favorite color, she gravitated toward the dress.
“It’s not really necessarily a color that I’m drawn to very often, but this particular pink and this particular dress were right for me,” she tells PEOPLE.

The Candy alum also said the “most memorable” part of the annual fundraiser happened when she finally made it to her table after seeing the exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
“I finally sat down in my chair and realized that the person sitting next to me, the lovely Donald Glover, no longer had a seat because my dress was in his place,” she recalls. “I said, ‘I’m sorry, Donald, we’re going to do this together. We’ll get you this place.’ While I was pulling, pulling and throwing this dress, it just didn’t stop coming.”
