Jessica Chastain Reveals Her ‘Beautiful Grandma Marilyn’ Has Been Diagnosed with Breast Cancer: ‘She’s a Total Badass’

Jessica Chastain shares an update on her grandmother Marilyn Hearst’s health.

Oskarovka (47) revealed in an Instagram post on Friday, October 11, that her beloved grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“My beautiful grandmother Marilyn, who many of you have met at various events, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer,” Chastain wrote.

“I flew out this week to meet with her wonderful doctors and surgeons who are giving her the best possible care,” Maternal instinct the star continued. “I am beyond grateful to the amazing hospital staff.”

She added: “She’s a total badass and I know she’s going to get through this. 💪🏼.”

“In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she asked me to remind you all: Get your mammogram today,” the actress added.

“You are so important to so many people—please make this a priority. 💖 #BreastCancerAwareness #GetChecked #EarlyDetection”

The Instagram post also included a video of Hearst telling her and Chastain’s followers how she felt a small lump in her breast, mentioned it to her doctors during her annual exam, and how she got a mammogram.

Hearst is now being treated for breast cancer. “I feel very grateful for the fact that I caught it so early because it’s so treatable,” she said. “But if you don’t take care of yourself and don’t get screened or even get regular mammograms, you might not catch it early and it might not help you.”

“So I really want you to come out and do it. Please, for me,” asked Hearst. Chastain also added, “For grandma! Get a mammogram right now, please.”

Chastain has a close relationship with her grandmother. The Wall Street Journal announced that Hearst moved in with the actress during the quarantine of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The duo spent quality time together and worked out several times a week.

Chastain once told a funny story about Hearst in January 2022, recalling her grandmother sitting on a fellow actor’s lap at a party the actress hosted.

“A few years ago I had a party at my house and Bradley Cooper was there. My grandma is at an age now where she just doesn’t care, you know? She’s just like, ‘I’ll do whatever I want,'” Chastain recalled. during a visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“So in the middle of the party, she just walked up to Bradley and just sat on his lap,” she continued. “He actually looked horrified. He’d never met her. He didn’t know who she was.”

“I saw it happen in slow motion where I said, ‘No!’ I just started saying, ‘That’s my grandma!’ Then he said, ‘Okay, Grandma…’,” Interstellar added the actress.
