Simpson, 43, and her daughter Maxwell “Maxi” Drew wore matching animal print jackets in a series of Instagram photos on Monday. The photoshoot began with shots of the fashion mogul looking sultry while wearing a black body suit.

She pursed her lips to pose next to Maxwell, 11, in one photo and closed her eyes as she laughed in another sweet mother-daughter moment. The Instagram post ended with a photo of the two looking straight into the camera next to Maxwell’s aunt, Ashlee Simpson Ross.

Although Simpson Ross (39) decided not to follow the fashion trend, she looked just as chic in a long black maxi coat.

Maxwell is Simpson’s eldest daughter, whom she shares with husband Eric Johnson. The two are also parents to Ace Knute, 10, and Birdie Mae, 4.

Simpson told PEOPLE in August that her three children have shown her how to be “brave.”

“I was too nervous to go back to other jobs that are my passion until I felt they were confident enough in school and life before I stepped on stage. It’s crazy, the responsibility I feel as a parent, but really I look at them and they taught me so much,” she told PEOPLE. – They teach me to be brave.

Balancing work and family has been a priority for Simpson, who splits her time between LA and Nashville while working on new music.
