Jesus Pride Flag

The Chosen Ones was the first multi-season series to depict the life and ministry of Jesus. The show, available on Netflix and other streaming platforms, is in its fourth season and has a rating of 9.3 out of 10 on various social platforms. Calls to boycott the show began spreading on social media after self-proclaimed Christian Jon Root saw the flag in a posted photo and called out the show on Twitter.

A hand-sized Pride flag was seen in The Chosen’s promotional video posted on Sunday, May 28. Twitter user @accabat also claimed that one of the show’s cameramen was seen wearing a Pride T-shirt during filming. For the uninitiated, The Chosen One is a popular multi-episode series depicting the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. The first two seasons of the series were produced on a budget of $45 million, which the production company raised through crowdfunding. The third season premiered late last year and ended in February.

The historical drama is created by Dallas Jenkins with Jonathan Roumie playing Jesus. The boycott of the hit series comes amid ongoing cancellations by several companies that have shown their support for the LGBTQ community. Beer giant Budweiser was the first of many to apparently be canceled over its collaboration with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Since then, various brands including Target, Kohl’s, Adidas, Calvin Klein and Build-A-Bear, among others, have come under fire. Netizens continued to share screenshots of tweets in which people defended the cast and crew of the show.

Conservative supporters of the television series were furious and vowed never to watch the series again. Many went on to argue that God does not support the LGBTQ community. Selected took to their official Twitter to announce that they have a diverse cast and crew. They also stated that they were willing to cooperate with anyone who wanted to portray an authentic version of Jesus. Director Jenkins has also been open from the start about involving people of all faiths in creating the series.
