Jhulan Goswami was born on November 25, 1982 in a Bengali family in Chakdaha, Nadia, West Bengal, India (age 2018: 36 years). As a child, she loved playing and watching football. However, her interest in cricket grew as she watched the 1992 Cricket World Cup on television. At the age of 15, she started playing cricket and started practicing the sport. There were no cricket training facilities in her hometown and she later moved to Kolkata to focus on studies and cricket.

When she was a teenager, she made her debut for the Bangladesh cricket team. She made her Test cricket debut for the national women’s cricket team on 14 January 2002 against England in Lucknow. In 2006, Goswami made his T20 international debut in the English Derby. She bats right-handed and bowls with medium velocity with her right arm. In 2008, she was appointed captain of the national women’s cricket team and led the team until 2011. In 2008, Goswami became the fourth woman to reach 100 wickets in Asia Cup ODIs. She has also served as a bowling consultant for the Indian women’s national cricket team and as a player-coach.
