Jim Parsons Says He Wouldn't Consider a Big Bang Theory Reboot Now: 'They Call It Lightning in a Bottle for a Reason'

Jim Parsons is perfectly fine not coming back The big bang theory anytime soon.

In the episode of October 11 Who’s talking to Chris Wallace of Max, Parsons, 51, said he considers being known as his character Sheldon Cooper a “blessing”. However, the actor, currently starring in the Broadway revival Our Citysaid he is not considering rebooting or reuniting the hit sitcom.

“As we sit here now, no, but I would also never say never to anything, because life just changes a lot,” he told Wallace when asked if he would consider a reboot or a reunion show. “You know, one of the things is that it was as special as it was as it was. And they call it lightning in a bottle for a reason, and you can be sure it wouldn’t be.”

“And why would we do that? I don’t know that I feel that way right now. But like I said, God willing, life is very long,” Parsons added.

The big bang theory it ran from 2007 to 2019 and earned Parsons four Emmys and one Golden Globe.

When asked if being known to people as his character Sheldon was “a blessing or a curse,” Parsons replied, “I feel pretty strongly that it’s almost, if not a complete, 100% blessing at this point. No, I know I wouldn’t say that 10 years ago.”

His character is so beloved that Sheldon inspired a spinoff prequel based on the character’s childhood, aptly named Young Sheldonwhich lasted from 2017-2024.

Parsons told PEOPLE in June that the prequel series finale was the perfect send-off for the series, giving him the ending he didn’t realize he needed as the show’s narrator and executive producer.

Parsons particularly enjoyed appearing as Sheldon with his co-star and on-screen wife Mayim Bialik (played by Amy Farrah Fowlery) in a cameo appearance. “It felt like a perfect little coda at the end of this whole wonderful experience.”

“All those actors and writers and crew Young Sheldon are so nice,” he added. “To come back and be in their space as a very welcome guest was…it was really sweet.”
