1. Scarlett Johansson may have had an unintended role in it.
Jackman said The Daily Beast It’s Scarlett Johansson who may have started the feud, though he admitted he initially had trouble remembering the origins.
The actor explained how he started teasing Reynolds about his recent (at the time) marriage to Johansson, 39. The two were married from 2008 to 2011 before Reynolds married current wife Blake Lively in 2012.
“I used to crack him up because I was really close friends with Scarlett, and Scarlett had just married Ryan, so when he came on set, I said, ‘Hey, you better be on your best behavior here, buddy, because I I’m watching,’ and we started arguing like that, and then everything escalated with Deadpool thing and he’s calling me names and trying to manipulate me through social media into doing what he wants,” Jackman explained.
He appeared to make their feud public in 2015 when he posted a video on his Instagram of Reynolds mimicking him – Aussie accent and all – in his Deadpool makeup.

2. The argument initially focused mostly on Reynolds’ desire to make Deadpool/Wolverine movie.
Since that time, Jackman and Reynolds, who met on the set in 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverinethey continued their public trolling and found ways to make fun of each other on social media.
In January 2017, Reynolds made it clear that he wanted to make a mashup film featuring his Deadpool character with Jackman’s Wolverine.
Unfortunately for Free Guy actor, Jackman hung up his Wolverine claws just months later, in March, with the release of Loganhis seemingly final foray as a comic book mutant. But that didn’t stop Reynolds, whose Deadpool & Wolverine dreams come true now.
“I have no idea if I can change it,” Reynolds said Diversity Jackman at the time. “It’s about the audience: I would solely use that relationship to bring Hugh back for another.”
He repeated his statements for Entertainment Weekly later, saying, “What we’re going to have to do is convince Hugh. If nothing else, I’ll have to do whatever I can to get my online friends back to help rally another cause.”
As Jackman said Diversity“I hesitate. I could totally see it being a perfect fit. But the timing may be wrong.”
3. Their antics spanned years and included Christmases, birthdays and live performances.
Jackman and Reynolds trolled each other during holidays and birthdays.

“When you’re trying to record a heartfelt birthday message…but get interrupted by the littlest biggest showman,” Jackman wrote on Twitter.
Distracted by the song, he panned the camera to show Reynolds lying on a hotel bed in full Deadpool costume, belt “Sutra” from Annie.
“Don’t pay too much attention to him,” Jackman said in the clip.
For Reynolds’ 42nd birthday, the couple had another hilarious exchange on social media. Given the nature of their relationship, Jackman of course celebrated his friend’s big day by trolling him.
“Because I’ve been told I’m the BEST GUY and you’re NOT. @VancityReynolds … I’ll let you hug me. Just this once. On your birthday,” he wrote alongside a picture of the couple embracing.
Reynolds quickly responded with a false claim. “This man is a monster“, he wrote. “He’s not even from Australia. He’s from Milwaukee.”
4. The duo seemingly agreed to a truce.
In February 2019, Reynolds and Jackman announced on their social media accounts that their friendly feud was officially over.

The fake footage was captioned by Reynolds, “Look closely.”
5. They reignited the feud just a few months later.

“I played #wolverine for the first time … and I actually bled. Clearly @vancityreynolds is guilty,” Jackman wrote over a picture of a scratch on his wrist. The attachment also reportedly included jokes about Reynolds and Jackman playing Wolverine.

In 2020, Jackman wished his now-ex, Deborra-lee Jackman, a happy 24th anniversary in a heartfelt message on social media.

“Look, I’m not telling you how to celebrate Hugh Jackman’s birthday. So don’t tell me,” he wrote, adding in the caption “Socks to be Hugh.”
Jackman reposted Reynolds’ TikTok on his Instagram page and addressed it in his own video, thanking friends and fans for their birthday wishes.
“I know there’s been a lot of messages about Ryan’s post – he’s wearing socks with my face on them and he’s wondering where you can get them,” the actor added, joking: “You can’t get them anywhere because he made them himself, he I weaved.”

In their recent conversation with PEOPLE, Jackman said that “a lot of people have been reaching out to him” about Reynolds.
“And I’m like, ‘Shut up, I’m not interested,'” he added, to which Reynolds replied with a laugh, “That’s a clue.”
But seriously, Jackman told Reynolds that he believes that speaking out about his experience with anxiety “took courage” and that he “helped a lot of people.”
And for Reynolds, the key to their friendship is partly that they “rely on each other for the right advice you want.”

“99% of the time, People Magazine is right,” Jackman wrote in the caption before jokingly blasting Reynolds. “But a word of caution. There’s the 1%. Exhibit A.”
9. They even beef in promotional material outside Deadpool & Wolverine.
