Jimmy Kimmel sneaks in a last-minute Matt Damon rant during the 2024 Oscars.
As the 96th Academy Awards wrapped up on ABC Sunday night, cameras cut to Messi, the actor’s dog Anatomy of a Fallwhile appearing to urinate on 53-year-old Damon’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In that goofy moment, the dog lifts its leg over the star before walking away, suggesting that Oscars host Kimmel, 56, put the dog through the wringer.
The moment is a continuation of the long-running “feud” between Damon and the others Jimmy Kimmel Live! hosts have continued for years, dating back to 2005, when Kimmel jokingly ended an episode of his late-night talk show by claiming they had “run out of time” to talk to Damon, whom he had never met at the time.
In a recent interview with CNN before the Oscars, Kimmel mocked Damon again, this time for not coming to this year’s awards despite being in the year’s most nominated film, Oppenheimer.
“He wasn’t nominated for an Oscar. He was in Oppenheimer. Everyone else was nominated but him,” Kimmel told the outlet. (Costars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. won awards on Sunday, and Emily Blunt was also nominated from the cast.)
Of Damon’s no-show, Kimmel joked to CNN, “What really happened? He couldn’t get a ticket. That’s one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard. He asked if he could come, and they said, ‘Sorry, nominees only.’ ”

Damon and Kimmel have traded jabs on more than one occasion in the nearly two decades since that original joke. In 2008, Damon enlisted Kimmel’s then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman to make a music video in which he jokingly suggested the two had an affair; Damon snuck in too Jimmy Kimmel Live! over the years, and last year Ben Affleck tried to play the peacemaker between the “feuding” duo.

Kimmel paid loving tribute to Messi, who played Snoop Dog in this year’s Best Original Screenplay winner Anatomy of a Fallduring his opening monologue on Sunday.
“Messi, who, although a dog, may have given the performance of the year Anatomy of a Fall,” Kimmel praised him, after jokingly saying he would have Messi play the lead role if Shaggy dog ever receive a reboot.

“Messi has an overdose scene, if you saw it, you knew it. It’s amazing,” Kimmel added, capturing one of the dog’s most notable moments Anatomy of a Fall. “Honestly, I haven’t seen a French actor eat his own vomit like that since Gérard Depardieu.”
Messi has been one of the stars of the awards season after attending the Academy Awards lunch in February and meeting celebrities and Oscar nominees including Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper.
Kimmel also tried some of his monologue jokes on Messi before Sunday’s broadcast in a video shared on Instagram.
