Narain accused of sexual harassment
When Narain was the chief secretary, there were reports of twenty women visiting his residence in Port Blair. He was accused of gang rape after a 21-year-old girl complained to him. She said in her complaint that she met Narain in a hotel room while looking for a job. She revealed that Narain raped her and tortured her for two weeks and threatened her not to tell anyone about it. After investigation, it was established that he raped the 21-year-old girl and deceived 20 other girls by promising them government jobs. Narain, however, denied the allegations and said it was a conspiracy against him. He was relieved of all duties by the Federal Interior Ministry. The Calcutta High Court granted him interim bail till November 14, 2022, which was later suspended and he was arrested. A statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs said,
As reports suggested possible serious misconduct and abuse of power by Jitendra Narain, the Home Minister directed that strict action be taken immediately against the officials concerned as per law. Accordingly, Jitendra Narain has been suspended with immediate effect and disciplinary action has been ordered against him. ”
