JJ Valaya started his career under the male dominance of Rohit Khosla before founding his own label. In 1992, he founded his own luxury fashion brand “The House of Valaya” with his brother Tribhavan Jit Singh. His creations often combine traditional Indian craftsmanship with modern aesthetics, showcasing intricate embroideries, rich fabrics and cultural influences. Valaya’s creative vision and his brother’s organizational skills were largely responsible for Valaya’s growth as a luxury brand. After launching the Pret line in 2003, he began selling fashion and lifestyle products under brands such as JJ Valaya, Studio Valaya and Valaya Home-Life. The company offers ready-to-wear, homewares and fashion. In 2010, Valaya’s ALIKA series received wide acclaim many times in Dubai. His storyteller streak shines through in this series, in which he tells the stories of female court musicians in India and their passionate encounters with the princes of the kingdom. His winter collection, Alika, features beautifully crafted jalabiyas, kaftan saris and anarkali-churidars. Valaya uses his couture pieces to express stories that he finds compelling. This may have been one of the reasons for his interest in Indian royal history. His famous Alika jacket also makes its debut in this collection.

Valaya’s winter/festive collection TASVEER launched at Lakme Fashion Week 2011 to rave reviews. Valaya’s twin passions – photography and fashion – are incorporated into the collection. The collection is inspired by the evolution of photography from black and white to sepia to hand-stained, natural and digital prints. It’s a journey of color told through clothing. There are also about 10 men’s suits including Sherwanis, bandhgalas, jodhpurs and Nehru jackets.

The AZRAK collection launched by Valaya at Wells India Fashion Week 2012 has always stayed true to its unusual and common themes. Türkiye and the Ottoman Empire in Western Asia were the inspiration for the collection. His creations blend Western and Indian silhouettes, traditional patterns, modern draperies and feminine forms with minimalism and grandeur. The products on display include sarees, jackets, anarkalis, jodhpurs, blouses and gowns. Kangana Ranaut looked stunning in a lovely white lehenga, traditional Indian jewelery and a gorgeous brocade Maharaja coat. 12 models walked the designer’s runway, including Suneet Verma, Rohit Bal, Navtej Johar, Jamie Celebrities such as Jamie Stewart, Sumant Jayakrishnan and Navin Ansal.
