Later that year, he appeared in the films “Operation Finale”, “Boy Erased” and “Mary Queen of Scots”. While “Boy Erased” is a biographical drama about the son of Baptist parents who is forced to participate in gay conversion therapy. As a result, “Mary Queen of Scots” is a historical drama based on the life of Mary I of Scots, who ruled Scotland from 1542 to 1567. However, he won the Chopard Trophee along with Elizabeth Debicki at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2019, Alwyn played slave owner Gideon Brodess in the award-winning biographical drama “Harriet,” about abolitionist Harriet Tubman.
