Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt Share Relationship Update, Say Marriage 'Doesn't Have to Be That Serious' (Exclusive)

Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt share their best marriage advice.

The couple recently spoke with PEOPLE to discuss what life has been like since they tied the knot in 2022. Pitt explains that “nothing changed” when they tied the knot, but their love is still going strong.

“Married life is great,” says Amabile, 38, while Pitt, 27, adds, “It’s pretty easy, which I think is a good sign.”

“We already lived together and we don’t have a child,” she continues. “It’s fun!”

When it comes to their biggest tips for maintaining a happy relationship, Pitt says they don’t think too much.

“I can’t talk about 20 years of marriage, but we’re in a year, and I just think we’re having fun,” she shares. “It doesn’t have to be that serious. Have fun together. Enjoy life, enjoy your relationship.

Aside from signing some papers and realizing that “maybe we should have a will,” Pitt notes that she would have been concerned if the marriage had changed the dynamic of their relationship in a big way.

“We’re hoping to keep things as easy and effortless as they were before the wedding,” she says. “And they did, so that’s great.”

Amabile attributes that relief to good communication, saying that suppressing emotions will only lead to resentment and “before you know it, it’s been a few years and you’re unhappy.”

“Oh, my God, he’s not speaking from experience!” Pitt picks up.

“No, but I’m saying it kind of happens,” he explains. “I’m somebody, I can’t keep anything inside, so it’s all out there.”

“Yes, Joe experiences every single emotion every day — multiple times,” laughs Pitt.

The couple met for the first time in 2021 in the 7th season Bachelor in Paradise and tied the knot at a New York City courthouse in October 2022. The following year, they had an extravagant wedding ceremony in Charleston, South Carolina, which they admitted to PEOPLE earlier this month was “a little too much.”

“We don’t know which one to celebrate!” Pitt said as Amabile joked, “That comes with going on reality TV and dating.”

Despite having two anniversaries, the couple said their “honeymoon phase” exceeded their expectations.

“There are so many things about him that I thought might go away after the honeymoon,” Pitt revealed. “Joe continues to surprise me with little gifts and thoughtful gestures and he really is, and I love that.”
