John Legend is speaking out against Sean “Diddy” Combs following a series of abuse and trafficking allegations against him — and opening up about the abuse of women in general.

In an interview published Thursday, Legend, 45, told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour that he was “appalled” by the allegations made by Combs’ ex-girlfriend Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura and a number of other women.

“I was horrified by the descriptions I read before the video evidence was released,” Legend said during a May 30 interview. “And it’s absolutely something that needs to be brought out when it happens.”

The “All of Me” singer added that he was “appalled by the allegations” as well as “the video evidence that was released afterward,” referring to March 2016 security camera footage released by CNN earlier this month that showed Combs physically assaulting him. and throws things at Ventura in the hotel hallway.

Ventura also addressed this same incident in her now-settled lawsuit filed last November, in which she also alleged that the music mogul raped and trafficked her over 10 abusive years.

“My default position is to believe the women when they make these allegations and to make sure that we do everything we can to support the women,” Legend continued, adding that he hopes these women “will be heard and any kind of accountability and compensation can be made to make these women whole again.”

“That’s a real shame,” he finished. “I really just want accountability and hopefully some healing for all of his victims.”

Legend and Combs previously collaborated on his 2023 track “Kim Porter,” which also featured a guest appearance by Babyface. The song is named after Combs’ late partner, who died in 2018.

After the video obtained and released by CNN earlier this month was released, Combs spoke out about the footage and appeared to apologize to Ventura.

“It’s so hard to think about the darkest times in your life,” Combs said after the video was released, sharing a statement via an Instagram video. “Sometimes you have to do it. I was screwed. I mean, I hit rock bottom, but I’m not apologizing. My behavior in that video is inexcusable.”

He continued: “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”

“Appalled. I was appalled when I did it, I’m appalled now. I went and sought professional help, went to therapy, went to rehab. I had to ask God for his grace and mercy. I’m so sorry, but I I am committed to being a better man every day,” Combs added.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office later announced that it was “unable to” charge Combs in connection with the video, as it was recorded “outside the time frame in which felony assault can be prosecuted.”

“If the described behavior had occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would not have been able to press charges because the behavior would have occurred outside the time frame in which the criminal offense of assault can be prosecuted,” according to a statement from the state prosecutor’s office published on May 17.

“As of today, law enforcement has not presented a case related to the assault depicted in the video against Mr. Combs,” it continued. “But we encourage anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to report it to the police or contact our Office of Victim Services support.”If you are experiencing domestic violence, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or go to thehotline.org.
