John Leguizamo Says He Regrets Turning Down Devil Wears Prada Role That Went to Stanley Tucci

John Leguizamo reflects on the roles he almost played.

The actor, 63, told Business Insider that he turned down the role of Nigel Kipling in 2006. The devil wears Pradaa character eventually played by Stanley Tucci.

“Oh yeah. The devil wears Pradapart of Stanley Tucci,” he said when asked if he had any regrets.

“Also Happy feetpart of Robin Williams,” Leguizamo added. “And Mr. and Mrs. Smith, part of Vince Vaughn. I had my reasons. I mean, they’re stupid, but I had my reasons.”

IN The devil wears PradaTucci’s character Nigel serves as a mentor to Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs as she struggles to find her footing in the fictional Runway magazine working as an assistant to editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).

While Leguizamo did not share why he denied it The devil wears Prada role, he expanded on his reasoning for turning down the other two films.

For 2005 Mr. and Mrs. Smithhe said he was only offered a minimal fee to appear alongside stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

“I felt slighted. And they probably weren’t slighting me, but I felt slighted,” Leguizamo told Business Insider. “Sometimes when you’re a person of color, you’re so used to being put down that you think you’re being put down, and sometimes you’re not. It happens and you have to go to a lot of therapy to fix it.”

Leguizamo, who is currently promoting his new series The green veilhe also said that he never got tired of playing Sid in various Ice Age films — and almost had different costs.

“Original Ice Age was a drama. I was always involved, but they had different actors. We had the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman, we had Ben Stiller, and then it was Ray Romano, Denis Leary and myself,” Leguizamo said.

He continued, “It’s been years of trying to get the comic beat, but I’ve always loved that character. We created this innocent, naive, beautiful soul. I appreciate that. I love Sid the Sloth.”
