Age and Early Life of John Simm
John Simm was born on July 10, 1970 in Leeds, England. He was the eldest son of three. He grew up in areas including Blackpool, Burnley, Nelson, Colne and Manchester in North West England. Ronald, like his father, was a musician, and John started singing and playing the guitar at the age of twelve. He also directed Edge End High School, where he was influenced by theater instructor Brian Wellock.
Simm then studied for three years at Blackpool and Fylde College in Lytham St. Annes before starring in Guys and Dolls and West Side Story at Blackpool’s Grand Theater in 1986. He traveled to London when he was nineteen to enroll at the Drama Center London, where he studied the acting approach of the Stanislavski method and graduated in 1992.

Moving to the more experienced side of his life, he began his profession in 1992. Between the 1990s and 2000s, he was one of the founders, composer and guitarist of the rock band Magic Alex. He also played Joby Johnson in an episode of the TV series Rumpole of the Bailey. He then went on to play a series of characters, including a madman in The Bill, a lovelorn schoolboy in Heartbeat and a drug-addled thief in The Locksmith, during which time he perfected his technique in front of the camera. In 1995, he played disturbed teenager Bill Preece in the popular ITV police drama Cracker.
In the same year, he was nominated for best actor at the Valencia Film Festival, beating Dennis Hopper. The following year he made his professional theater debut at the Bush Theater in Simon Bent’s play Goldhawk Road, directed by Paul Miller.
