He learned of his cancer after an upper respiratory infection in October that resulted in rapidly swelling lymph nodes, with one area growing to the size of a golf ball. The growth led to Coulier undergoing PET and CT scans and a biopsy at the doctor’s suggestion.
“Three days later, the doctors called me again and said, ‘We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and it’s called B-cell and it’s very aggressive,'” he said.
“I went from, I had a little cold to having cancer, and it was pretty devastating,” Coulier told PEOPLE. “It’s been this really fast roller coaster ride.”

“It was just that outpouring, ‘I’ll be there. Just tell me the time and I know you’re in good hands with Mel, but what can we do?’ The love we have for each other is really overwhelming. We’ve been there for each other for so many years and that’s pretty remarkable.”
Hours after Dave’s interview with PEOPLE was published, Stamos posted a message on social media, promising his friend that he would “be by your side through it all.”
